Tue 4th Sep 2018The Guards Ladies’ Charity Tournament for the Lord Patrick Beresford TrophyThe ladies out in force for Breast Cancer Haven Charity
On Saturday 1 September, The Guards Ladies’ Charity Tournament for the Lord Patrick Beresford Trophy came to an end in bright sunshine, with Dodson & Horrell coming up against the UAE Polo Team in the Final. This 18 goal tournament is the last stage in the 2018 Victrix Ludorum series and saw victors Dodson & Horrell not only take the win 9-8, but also saw the team crowned victors of the series. Throughout this exciting day, guests gathered at Guards Polo Club in support of the Breast Cancer Haven Charity, the leading charity supporting those diagnosed with breast cancer. As part of the Club’s fundraising, it opened up the Clubhouse to non-members for the day with British Polo Gin ‘Boozy Blush’ cocktails greeting the guests on arrival, followed by a lunch and charity auction, as well as post-polo cocktails and live music courtesy of the in-house DJ, Ebe Sievwright. During the day’s activities, guests indulged in a sumptuous meal courtesy of Clubhouse caterers Mosimann’s as well as make-up from the world-famous Charlotte Tilbury brand and a raffle, with gifts aplenty. The entire event welcomed a hint of pink, in honour of the Breast Cancer Haven Charity, with a specially made flower wall decorating the Clubhouse as guests entered for the day. Following a thrilling day of matches, Dodson & Horrell defeated their UAE Polo Team rivals with a golden goal in extra time to take home the ultimate prize, The Lord Patrick Beresford Trophy, presented by Lord Patrick himself. Both teams were awarded an abundance of prizes, from Charlotte Tilbury make-up to British Polo Gin hats and Roses Only roses. Hazel Jackson-Gaona was presented with The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player award, whilst her pony, Aliha, was awarded the Polo Times Best Playing Pony rug. Later on that day, in the Final of The Guards Ladies Charity Match, Hesketh Ladies defeated The Haven 3-1 to take home the honours. Kim Roche was presented with The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player honours.
