La Familia Narrowly Secure Title

BMW B. Grimm Thai Polo Open 2019

On Saturday 19 January, the Thai Polo & Equestrian Club in Pattaya, Thailand, welcomed players and spectators for the Final of The BMW B. Grimm Thai Polo Open 2019. The day started with the Subsidiary Final, which saw 22BR defeated Axus to take home third place. Following the match, spectators were treated to entertainment in the form of a show jumping display and the Wat Suthi Marching Band.

The Final was a hard fought battle between the host team, Thai Polo and their local rivals La Familia. It was a game of end-to-end polo, but the scores only rested at 1-1 at half-time, scored by Facundo Fernández Llorente and Mohamed Moiz. With only two more goals in the third chukka, the match went into the fourth with the teams tied 2-2, with little hope of breaking the stalemate. The scores were still tied 3-3 at the end of the fourth chukka, so the umpires made the decision to go into extra-time with a golden goal opportunity. Following a number of missed penalty opportunities, Matias Vial finally secured a final goal for La Familia, securing the title 4-3 for La Familia. Moiz was named Most Valuable Player, whilst Paz, owned by Moiz and played by Vial, was awarded the Best Playing Pony honours.
