Silver Cup Semi Finals Set

Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club welcome international teams

On Friday 1 February, the Silver Cup Semi Finals were set at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club with deciding games between four teams.

First up were Ghantoot Polo vs UAE, which saw Ghantoot take the initial lead to secure a two goal advantage at the end of the first chukka with the scores resting on 4-2. However, by the third chukka UAE Polo had managed to take the lead thanks to goals from Alejandro Muzzio and Tomas Panelo. The final two chukkas saw both teams go head-to-head with all to play for and this was mirrored in the frenetic goal scoring by both teams. By the end of the fourth chukka, UAE Polo still maintained the lead and by the final whistle the score rested on 10-9 in favour of UAE Polo.
Next up, Dubai Wolves faced Abu Dhabi Polo, who took the lead from the outset. After half-time Dubai Wolves found their form and notched up a series of goals in the last two chukkas, however it wasn’t enough to wear down the early lead established by Abu Dhabi Polo, who took the win 13-8.
The Silver Cup continued yesterday with the Subsidiary Semi Finals (Abu Dhabi vs Mahra and Zedan vs Dubai Wolves) and the Semi Finals will be played today, Tuesday 5 February, which will see Ghantoot vs Desert Palm and Habtoor vs UAE Polo. In the Subsidiary Semi Finals, Mahra first defeated Abu Dhabi, 11½-8, followed by a win for Zedan, 9-6 against Dubai Wolves. The Silver Cup will come to an end on Friday 8 February with the Final.
After the Silver Cup, the polo action continues at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club with the Polo Masters Cup (10 goal) 10 – 15 February; Julius Baer Gold Cup (18 goal) 18 February – 8 March; Dubai Challenge Cup (18 goal) 15 – 30 March and finishes with The Dubai Cup (8 goal) 2 – 12 April.
