Wed 5th Aug 2020Last Minute Les Lions/Great Oaks WinCartier Queen’s Cup
Yesterday, Tuesday 4 August, Gold Cup finalists Les Lions/Great Oaks continued their 2020 Cartier Queen’s Cup success, with their second win of the tournament. Les Lions/Great Oaks had to fight for every inch against Siri Bazzoni’s MT Vikings, who built upon their one goal handicap advantage and took the lead in the first chukka which ended 4-2 in their favour. MT Vikings maintained this control throughout the first half and by half-time the scoreboard read 6-4 in favour of MT Vikings. Les Lions/Great Oaks’ initial four chukkas were marred with fouls, they committed double the number of fouls compared to MT Vikings, which left the door open for MT Vikings to hold their nerve and take the win. Yet, Les Lions/Great Oaks had other ideas and Barto Castagnola opened the firth chukka with a goal, followed by another penalty which brought his team to within striking distance of MT Vikings, 8-7. Les Lions/Great Oaks Dillon Bacon scored the equaliser early in the sixth chukka, followed by a goal from Jeta Castagnola, which gave Les Lions/Great Oaks the lead for the first time, 9-8. As the pressure increased, the play became more scrappy on both sides, both teams converted penalties to take the scores to a tantalisingly close 10-9, but with the clock ticking down it was Jeta Castagnola who sent a pass up to Bacon who slotted the final goal between the flags. The action continues today with Park Place Vaara v Thai Polo at 1pm and Park Place v Polo Stud Schockemohle at 4pm, all matches can be watched live here.
