Mon 17th Aug 2020Cartier Queen’s Cup Semi Finals SetScone vs Park Place & Les Lions/Great Oaks vs Thai Polo NW
The English high goal journey continued on Saturday 15 August at Guards Polo Club with two important matches to decide the two remaining Semi Final teams. The first match of the day saw Monterosso face 2019 champions Scone. At the end of the first chukka the scores were tied at 2-2, but in the second chukka the defending champions took the lead and by the fourth chukka had extended their advantage to 8-3. However, Monterosso were not deterred and continued to fight until the last seconds, managing to narrow the gap to 12-9, but sadly it was not enough and Scone secured the win and with it their place in Wednesday’s Semi Finals. The second match of the day saw a Gold Cup Final rematch, with finalists Next Generation and Les Lions/Great Oaks facing each other. As expected, the game was evenly matched, hard fought and an exciting display of polo and the scores were repeatedly tied throughout, with the overall winners anyone’s guess. Adolfo Cambiaso was replaced by Juan Martin Zubia in the fifth chukka due to an injured back, but this didn’t deter Next Generation and at the end of the sixth chukka the scores were tied at 10-10, pushing the game into an extra chukka. Barto and Jeta Castagnola illustrated their dynamic play and produced a fantastic goal to score the winning goal for Les Lions/Great Oaks and secure their place in the Semi Finals against Thai Polo NW. The Semi Finals are scheduled for Wednesday 19 August with Scone vs Park Place at 12pm & Les Lions/Great Oaks vs Thai Polo NW at 3pm, you can watch the action live via GuardsTV here.
