Mon 19th Apr 2021Scone Secure US Open!Father-son Cambiaso duo dominate
Yesterday, Sunday 18 April, saw the conclusion of the 2021 Gauntlet of Polo with The U.S. Open Polo Championship Final between Scone and Park Place at International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC), with both teams both having a 2021 Gauntlet of Polo win apiece (The USPA Gold Cup and C.V. Whitey Cup respectively). The sun was shining on IPC’s Field One as Park Place and Scone battled it out in a fiercely fought Final, which ultimately came down to the last chukka to decide the outcome, which saw Scone secure themselves the title with a 14-13 victory and with it the $200,000 prize money. Adolfo Cambiaso was named the Most Valuable Player and his pony, Lovelocks Camusericht was also chosen as the Best Playing Pony of the US Open, Gauntlet of Polo, and IPC Horse of the Year; Michael Bickford won the Amateur Most Valuable Player award, having scored 15 goals throughout the tournament. For Cambiaso, this was his ninth title, but probably his most memorable as he raised the trophy alongside his son, Poroto Cambiaso, who ties with Nic Roldan as the youngest winner of The U.S. Open Polo Championship at 15-years-old. This means that amongst other titles, the Cambiaso father-son duo have now secured together The San Jorge Open (2019), The King Power Gold Cup for The British Open (2020) and The USPA Gold Cup (2021).
