Fri 2nd Jul 2021Gold Cup Day 3 Results: Wins for Park Place & Thai Polo NPBumper weekend of high goal
Thursday 1 July, the third day of action in the 2021 Gold Cup, saw wins for Park Place and Thai Polo NP. The day began with a thrilling contest between Park Place and Murus Sanctus in an end-to-end battle between both teams; Facundo Pieres and Sapo Caset led their teams in the offensive attacks, which took the results right down to the wire. In the end, the 10-8 win in favour came down to penalty accuracy, with Murus Sanctus only achieving two out of six attempts. The second match of the day saw 2021 Cartier Queen’s Cup finalists Scone versus Thai Polo NP, featuring an altered line-up for this tournament. Thai Polo NP controlled possession from the outset, demonstrating a dominant debut in The Gold Cup, taking the pundits by surprise who expected a stronger performance from Scone. James Harper, a new addition to the Thai Polo NP line-up for The Gold Cup, played an important role, not only closing the door effectively in defence but also contributing three goals and three goal assists in arguably one of his best performances this season. Thai Polo NP led throughout, but the fifth chukka saw the writing on the wall as they outscored Scone 3-0, extending their lead to six, with little time for Scone to reply; despite goals traded in the sixth chukka, Scone failed to comeback and lost the match 11-5.
