Tue 20th Jul 2021Indian Empire Shield FinalHalf goal win for Bardon
On Sunday 18 July, Bardon lifted the prestigious Indian Empire Shield at Guards Polo Club following a 6-5½ win against Emlor. The impressive shield dates back to the 1920s and this year saw 11 teams competing for the chance to secure the title, but on the day Bardon managed to maintain the advantage to take home the title. Just seven days earlier, these two teams’ fortunes had been reversed in the 15-goal Out-Sourcing Royal Inc. Royal Windsor Cup Final, with Emlor winning that match by half a goal. So, Bardon were determined not to let that happen again and led throughout this match. Ignacio Negri was particularly impressive for Bardon and was rewarded later with the British Polo Gin Most Valuable Player Award. Cambiaso Junior received the Polo Times Best Playing Pony prize for Open Calloway, who is owned by Bardon’s Polo Manager Matias Machado, whom Cambiaso had played in the second chukka. The Subsidiary Final saw another narrow score, with Green Gates defeating Black bears 8-7 to take home the Subsidiary Trophy.
