Wed 8th Jun 2022Oxford Secure La Martina Varsity Day Convincing 8-2 win
The La Martina Varsity Polo Day at Guards Polo Club is one of polo’s most historic trophies, dating back to the 1870s. This year’s polo began with Cambridge Old Blues defeating the Oxford Old Blues, 4-2 and also featured a Cartier Queen’s match Quarter Final. Each year, Oxford and Cambridge go head-to-head to lift the trophy; with Oxford dominating in recent years, it was little surprise to see them claim a convincing 8-2 win on Saturday 4 June at Guards Polo Club, with the Best Playing Pony chosen as Bella, played by Thomas Gordon-Colebrooke. Also played on the same day is the annual School’s contest played between Eton and Harrow, which highlights the talent across the years; the match saw Harrow narrowly defeat Eton 4-3.
