Weekend Gold Cup Results

Wins for UAE, Scone, Park Place Vaara & Marques de Riscal

Action continued over the weekend with Day 11 and Day 12 of The Cowdray Gold Cup for The British Open Polo Championship. On Saturday 2 July, in a rematch of The Cartier Queen’s Cup Final, Park Place Vaara and Great Oaks Les Lions met on Ambersham 3, with Park Place Vaara managing a different outcome second time around with a 12-4 win against their previously unbeaten opposition. The second match of the day was between Marques de Riscal and Vikings, with both teams very determined from the outset and by half-time the scores were tied at 5-5. With few whistles in the second half, both teams could enjoy a fast and flowing style, but the stalemate continued and an extra chukka was needed to determine the result. Ultimately, it was Marques de Riscal who secured the 11-10 win following Guillermo Caset’s flawless penalty 5 which was pushed over the line by Alejandro Aznar.
The following day saw a new league round begin with UAE Polo vs Thai Polo NP in the first match of the day. The first half was evenly fought, with just one goal separating the teams at half-time, but UAE Polo outscored Thai Polo NP 4-0 in the fifth chukka, which ultimately secured them the win, 15-10. The last match of the weekend was between Scone and Murus Sanctus, with a fierce battle between the two sides resulting in plenty of tied scores and nail-biting action. Murus Sanctus certainly made things difficult for Scone, but they were outscored 2-0 in the last chukka which gave away a 10-9 win to Scone.
The action continues today with Twelve Oaks vs Dubai (12pm) and Park Place vs Monterosso (4pm).
