84th Tortugas Open Finalists

Ellerstina vs La Hache on Friday 1 November

Over the weekend 26 – 27 October, the last league matches of The 84th Tortugas Open were played. The finalists were decided following the results from Sunday 27 October’s matches.

Cría La Dolfina needed to beat La Natividad (who were already out of the running) in order to advance to the Final, otherwise the spot would go to Ellerstina. The scores were relatively even until the fourth chukka when La Natividad took control and ended the match with an impressive 21-9 win, meaning that Ellerstina were the first team confirmed for The 84th Tortugas Open Final.

La Hache and La Dolfina Saudi went head-to-head in the second match of the day to decide the second finalist, with La Dolfina Saudi needing a win by two goals or more to move into the Final. Adolfo Cambiaso was back in La Dolfina’s line-up after being sidelined through injury, but La Hache’s Polito Pieres suffered from stomach issues and had to be substituted by the young Lorenzo Chavanne. By the end of the sixth chukka the scores were tied at 8-8 and although La Hache took the lead in the seventh chukka, La Dolfina kicked up a gear in the final chukka and the Cambiaso duo produced four unanswered goals which put La Dolfina Saudi ahead by the requisite two goals, 12-10. However, in the last 40 seconds of regulation time Lorenzo Chavanne, in his debut in the Triple Crown, picked the ball and scored the definitive goal to reduce the scores to 12-11, which meant that despite their loss, La Hache progressed into the Final against Ellerstina.

Ellerstina and La Hache will compete in the Final at 4pm (local time) on Friday 1 November.
