On Sunday 26 January, Zapican BMW beat Concord Equity Group 10-8 at The National Polo Center – Wellington, in The Joe Barry Memorial Final. Ignacio Viana was named Most Valuable Player and Yatay Bengala, played by Viana, was the Best Playing Pony. The tournament is played in memory of Joe Barry who’s impressive career included winning the 1971 Coronation Cup, three USPA Gold Cup titles and six U.S. Open Championships – in 1999 he was inducted into the Polo Hall of Fame. The Joe Barry Memorial Cup is the first of four qualifying tournaments (followed by The Ylvisaker Cup, The Iglehart Cup and Outback Cup) for The NPC 16 Goal Championship Final which will be played on Sunday 13 April at The National Polo Center – Wellington.
