New Zealand and England went head-to-head on Friday 31 January at Mystery Creek in the first of two international Test Matches. A hard-fought six chukkas saw England secure themselves an 11-9 win. The Best Playing Pony chosen by the English side was Joe, an Ainsley bred 10-year-old chestnut gelding owned by Jack Tito Bennett and played by Jimbo Fewster. Valerie won the Love Racing prize, a seven-year-old mare by Giant Steps out of a Shocking mare. Bred by DM Arnold and Kakapo Lodge. She was unraced and owned by Harry Semenoff and played by Jimbo Fewster. Jimbo Fewster was also chosen as the Most Valuable Player. The South Island New Zealand team of Lach Appleby (3), Sam Martin (3), Guy Higginson (4) and Charlie Wood (3) have been selected to play against the English side on Thursday 6 February at Glenmark.
