Dubai Gold Cup Update

The Pinnacle Tournament of the Dubai Season Reaches Halfway Stage

The league games in the Julius Baer Dubai Gold Cup have almost concluded with just four games remaining in the schedule, set to be played at the end of this week. Seven days and 14 games have so far produced two top teams; in Zone A Zedan Polo tops the table with four points and only one game remaining against Ghantoot ADCB Polo on Friday 4 March. Ghantoot ADCB Polo have only won one of their three games so far, which means that Zedan may continue their winning streak. In Zone B Habtoor Wolves Polo Team take the top spot with four points and their final league game will be against Bin Drai Polo on the same day.

Pablo MacDonough holds the top scorer title with an impressive 14 goals for his team Zedan Polo, whilst the only Brit in the tournament, 3 goaler Jack Hyde, is in fifth place on the scorer board with seven goals.

In the most recent action at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort, Julius Baer by Habtoor Polo defeated Ghantoot by 11 goals to 10 in the first match of the day on Tuesday 1 March. Julius Baer held a comfortable lead throughout the match and up until the fourth chukka, before Ghantoot made a comeback to take the lead, 10-9. With only a few minutes to go, the score tied at 10 goals apiece, but Manuel Elizalde took the ball from the centre, running the length of the field and shooting through the goalposts to score the winning goal for Julius Baer in the last seconds of the match.

In the second game of the day Edrees won their first game of the tournament against Habtoor Wolves Polo Team with a score of 10-7. Juan Ruiz Guiñazú, the 7 goaler for Edrees was the top scorer of the game with six goals and was also named Most Valuable Player. Click here to see all the team lists and results.
