Over the weekend The Gold Cup Quarter Final matches were played at Cowdray Park Polo Club, with eight teams vying for their place in Wednesday’s Semi Finals. The first Quarter Final of the 2021 Gold Cup for the British Open Championship featured an impressive performance from Great Oaks LL, producing 11 consecutive goals to defeat Murus Sanctus 14-7, securing the first spot in the Semi Finals; the second Quarter Final saw UAE Polo Team continue their Cartier Queen’s Cup winning streak, defeating Park Place 13-9 on Lawns Ground. Sunday 18 July saw the Quarter Final action continue with two more matches, Thai Polo NP vs King Power and Scone vs Monterosso. The first match of the day saw Scone use a very strong second half to take a 14-11 win against Monterosso, while the last Quarter Final of the weekend saw Thai Polo NP take an early lead which they maintained throughout every chukka, holding off King Power to secure their place in the Semis with a 11-10 win. This match secured Thai Polo NP The Ellerston Cup, with Furlong, played by James Harper and owned by Jim Gilmore chosen as the Best Playing Pony. The Semi Finals will take place on Wednesday 21 July on the Lawns Grounds with Great Oaks LL v UAE Polo Team at 12pm and Scone v Thai Polo NP at 4pm.
