In just over two weeks, six international teams will descend upon the beautiful Engadin Valley for the 37th edition of The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz. The three-day tournament is preceded by a day of training matches on Thursday 27 January, followed by the players and sponsors presentation at the Kulm Hotel and a Fondue Night at Hotel Steffani, to kick off the tournament. Work on the frozen lake is well underway to prepare the surface which has to support the 185m x 90m polo field as well as the infrastructure for the event including the VIP tent and grandstands, which weighs a staggering 2,600 tonnes! Day One sees three matches played, the first time in the tournament history, with Azerbaijan Land of Fire vs Perrier-Jouët, Clinique La Prairie vs World Polo League and Badrutt’s Palace Hotel vs Casablanca and after day one there will be a team ranking from one to six, with the three winners proceeding directly to the Semi Finals, with the team in fourth position also progressing to the Semi Finals; the first ranked team will play the best losing team, the second ranked team will play the third. The whole event will be adhering to the COVID "2G" rule (access limited to individuals vaccinated against or cured of covid-19) applies in all outdoor areas; in all indoor spaces and at all events, the stricter "2G-Plus" rule will apply (vaccinated/cured plus a negative PCR or antigen test). For those seeking some winter sunshine, polo and glamour in the birthplace of snow polo, look no further. Photograph: The 37th Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz begins in just over two weeks.
