Talandracas win Queen's Cup

Edouard Carmignac's side defeat Enigma in tense final at Guards

Talandracas won the Queen's Cup for the very first time yesterday, after defeating Enigma 9-8 in a rain-soaked final at Guards.

Edouard Carmignac's team didn't get off to the best of starts, as Jermone Wirth's Enigma advanced ahead in the first two chukkas. However, by half time, Talandracas managed to catch them up, levelling the score 5-5.

With the help of eight-goaler Milo Fernandez Araujo, who played a strong game throughout, Talandracas gained the lead for the first time in the fourth chukka. However, this was short lived as Enigma, featuring 10-goaler Juan Martin Nero, managed to equalise the score before going into the lead once again.

Talandracas fought back and by the final bell, the scoreboard read 8-8, forcing the game into a sudden-death chukka. Talandracas's Facundo Sola drove the ball down the field from the throw-in but a penalty against them at the goal mouth denied them them the winning goal.

As the two sides grappled for the ball by Talandracas's goal, Juan Martin Nero fell from his horse. Unhurt, Nero remounted and play resumed. This time, a foul by Enigma awarded Talandracas a spot hit at their goal mouth which Talandracas successfully converted, winning the 2011 Queen's Cup.

Earlier in the day, La Bamba De Areco beat Les Lions 11-10 in the subsidiary final.
