Wed 28th Feb 2024U.S. Women’s Open Championship FinalVictory for Buena Vibra in thrilling match
After a four-day rain delay, the highly anticipated U.S. Women’s Open Final unfolded on the NPC field amidst clear skies and bright sunshine. The undefeated Buena Vibra faced off against 90210, the victors of their closely contested league. Unfortunately, Sarah Siegel Magness, the patron of 90210, fell ill overnight, however, Winnie Branscum stepped in and played a crucial role in initiating the scoring for 90210. The first half showcased a fast and intense game, with Milly Hine's leadership and accurate penalty shots guiding Buena Vibra to a 6-3 lead. However, 90210 narrowed the gap to 6-5 by half-time, thanks to Mia Cambiaso's exceptional stick work and impressive horsepower. After the half-time break, 90210 maintained their dominant field play, surging to a 6-8 lead. Nevertheless, Milly Hine's consecutive 40 and 60-yard penalties levelled the score at eight all. The fifth chukka turned into a high-scoring affair, with Cata Lavinia and Meghan Gracida of 90210 combining for three field goals. Buena Vibra's Clari Cassino, Tita Tarazona, and Cory Williams responded strongly, closing the gap to finish the fifth chukka trailing 10-11. In a thrilling last chukka, Buena Vibra demonstrated their talent with exceptional teamwork, scoring three unanswered goals to emerge as 13-11 victors in this closely contested match. Both teams delivered their best performances of the tournament, but Milly Hine, with her pivotal role, eight goal tally, and the tournament's highest scorer, earned the Most Valuable Player award. The Best Playing Pony award was presented to Mia Cambiaso’s Dolfina Ceniza. A full report will be in the next issue of Polo Times, click here to gift a subscription to a friend today!
