Thu 30th May 2024Latest Queen’s Cup Results Wins for Desert Palm, Green Gates, Cibao La Pampa & UAE
On Tuesday 28 May, Desert Palm secured their second Group One victory with a hard-fought win over Adebayo Karim's Shoreline team. Though favored to win, Desert Palm faced a strong challenge from Shoreline, who matched their pace for most of the match. Despite Barto Castagnola's two-minute sin bin in the fifth with Desert Palm leading 8-7, Shoreline couldn't capitalize. Instead, Matias Torres Zavaleta scored for Desert Palm. The tense sixth period saw Rufino Laulhe, just 14, score a penalty to extend Desert Palm's lead to three goals. Castagnola then sealed the win with a final hit, ending the game 11-7. The second match of the day was equally intense, with both teams seeking their first win. Noor Khadra's Green Gates narrowly beat Jean Paul Luksic's Gaston, Prince of Wales Trophy finalists, in a game filled with whistles and penalties. Green Gates led 6-5 at halftime, but Gaston tied the game 12-12 with 30 seconds left. In the additional time, Fran Elizalde scored the decisive goal for Green Gates. The following day, Wednesday 29 May, saw two further matches. Cibao La Pampa secured their second Cartier Queen's Cup victory after a tough match against last year's finalists, La Magdeleine. The teams were evenly matched in the early chukkas, but La Magdeleine led 6-5 at halftime. Juan Pepa of Cibao La Pampa scored twice in the second half, and teammate Gonzalo Ferrari, riding a horse named Messi, added four more goals. La Magdeleine couldn't respond to this surge and trailed 10-6 at the start of the fifth. Despite a strong comeback attempt in the last two chukkas, they couldn't force extra time and Cibao La Pampa took the win, 12-11. The second game featured HH Sheikha Maitha's UAE Polo Team securing their first win after a hard-fought match. With Brigitte Boher filling in for the Sheikha, UAE led 3-2 after the second chukka. White Crane dominated the third, leading 7-4 at the break. UAE rallied in the fourth, tying the game 8-8, and both teams traded goals. In the sixth chukka, Tommy Beresford on his pony Kenya scored, and a last-minute penalty sealed UAE's 11-9 victory. The action continues on Friday 31 May with King Power s Ferne Park at 11am, Marqués de Riscal vs La Dolfina Great Oaks at 2pm and Park Place vs Dubai at 5pm, followed by three matches on Saturday 1 June: La Dolfina Scone vs Green Gates (11am), Thai Polo Get A Drip vs Desert Palm (2pm) and Black Bears vs Gaston (5pm).
