Mon 6th Oct 2025La Natividad La Dolfina Champions of Hurlingham Open 12-9 victory against UAE Polo
On Saturday 4 October, the first leg of the 2025 Argentine Triple Crown concluded with the 132nd Hurlingham Open Final between La Natividad La Dolfina and UAE.
Played on a warm and sunny spring afternoon, La Natividad La Dolfina and UAE delivered a tightly contested opening half, at least until the third chukka. The score was level at 1-all in the first, with UAE taking the lead in the second (4–2). A 60-yard penalty converted by Jeta Castagnola brought the score to 5-5 in the third. The momentum shifted in the fourth chukka, when a couple of fouls in favour of La Natividad La Dolfina led to two consecutive 30-yard penalties, both successfully converted by Jeta to give his team an 8–5 advantage. UAE managed to pull one back in the final seconds of the chukka through a goal by Lukin Monteverde.
After half-time, UAE appeared to regain momentum, with two unanswered goals from Polito Pieres in the fifth chukka reducing the gap to just one. UAE were back in contention, but a determined La Natividad La Dolfina had other plans, finding the goal again with just 45 seconds left to restore their two-goal cushion. In the sixth chukka, La Natividad La Dolfina took firm control – a 40-yard penalty conversion extended their lead to 10–7, giving them some breathing space going into the final two chukkas. Although Polito Pieres struck twice in the seventh to close the gap, Adolfo Cambiaso responded with a superb goal that put the Cañuelas side ahead 11–9 with one chukka remaining.
The last chukka was a true test for UAE, who needed at least two goals to push the match into overtime. However, their hopes faded halfway through, when Poroto Cambiaso found the posts to seal the final score at 12–9. Time ran out, and La Natividad La Dolfina emerged victorious, claiming the opening leg of the Argentine Triple Crown – the first title for the all-Cañuelas foursome, composed of the Cambiasos (father and son) and the Castagnola brothers.
The victory also earned Adolfo Cambiaso a couple of new records to add to his already extensive list of achievements. He became the player with the most Triple Crown tournaments (43), surpassing two legends of the sport, Juan Carlitos Harriott and Alberto Pedro Heguy. In addition, he now holds the record for the most Hurlingham Open wins (16), overtaking Juan Carlitos Harriott.
