Mrs Momma Bear/ Lonesome Wind Ranch Win The Outback Cup

Father/son Azzaro duo take home the final NPC 16 Goal title in overtime

The Final of the Outback Cup took place on Saturday 4 April at Patagones Polo Club in Wellington, Florida, marking the fourth and final qualifying leg of The NPC 16-Goal Championship. Following The Joe Barry Memorial Cup, Ylvisaker Cup and Iglehart Cup, the tournament served as the last opportunity for teams to secure their place ahead of the Championship Final, set for Sunday 12 April at the National Polo Center.
A competitive field of 12 teams was ultimately reduced to two unbeaten sides, both entering the final with identical 4-0 records with everything to play for. What followed was a tightly contested and high-intensity encounter, with Mrs. Momma Bear/LW Ranch, led by the experienced Father and son pairing of Mike and Harrison Azzaro, holding a narrow edge for much of the game. Their control peaked in the fifth chukka, where they extended the lead to 10-7.
However, Catamount, with Tomás Panelo stepping in for Adolfo Cambiaso, mounted a late surge. Delivering a decisive push in the sixth chukka, they outscored their opponents 4-1 to level the match at 11-11 and force an extra chukka.
In the sudden-death period, Harrison Azzaro reacted quickest, seizing possession and driving forward to convert the golden goal, sealing a 12-11 victory over Catamount. The result secured Mrs. Momma Bear/LW Ranch The Outback Cup title and the final qualifying spot for the NPC 16-Goal Championship.
Mike Azzaro was named Most Valuable Player, while DS Altamira, played by Mia Cambiaso, earned Best Playing Pony honours.
The Outback Cup Final Teams:
