Wed 22nd Jul 2026International Day 2026 Teams Revealed England to face Uruguay in The Coronation Cup, while Young England meet Young Argentina for The Whitbread Tankard
The line-ups have been confirmed for International Day at Guards Polo Club on Saturday 25 July, with England preparing to renew their rivalry with Uruguay in The Coronation Cup after Young England and Young Argentina open proceedings in The Whitbread Tankard.
While The Coronation Cup remains one of the sport's oldest and most prestigious international fixtures, The Whitbread Tankard has rapidly established itself as a valuable proving ground for the next generation of talent with the England side sporting two former England captains’ sons in the form of Will Harper and Zac Beim. With the two nations sharing the honours over the past two editions, and both sides sporting strong, established players, another closely fought contest is expected before attention switches to the day's main event.
England will be looking to continue their recent success against Uruguay after an 11-9 victory when the sides last met in 2022. That match marked Tommy Beresford's Coronation Cup debut, and three years later the 7 goaler returns to lead the side as captain. He is joined by Louis and Ned Hine alongside Ollie Cudmore. Louis and Ned have had great success in the UK high goal season playing for Park Place and Balanz Capital/ La hechicera respectively while Cudmore has won plenty for titles this summer and appearances for England against South Africa and the USA. Uruguay arrive with a wealth of experience, spearheaded by David 'Pelon' Stirling and supported by Ignacio 'Nachi' Viana, Alejo Taranco and Santiago Stirling.
Speaking ahead of the match, Beresford said:
"It's very exciting. We had a really tight game a few years ago so it's great to have a rematch against them. They're a great team with a lot of experience in four-man polo, and Pelon is arguably one of the best players in the history of the game. We all have our sights set on The Coronation Cup."
With established stars and future internationals sharing the stage, International Day once again promises one of the standout occasions of the British polo season.
