Mon 29th Jun 2026St. Regis Gold Cup Update High goal action gathers pace at Cowdray Park Polo Club
The St. Regis British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup is well underway at Cowdray Park Polo Club, with the early stages already producing close contests, impressive scoring and several statement wins.
Following the heatwave-related postponement earlier in the week, play resumed on Friday 26 June with four matches. Sujan Indian Tigers recorded their first win with an impressive 12-10 result against UAE Polo Team. The match was level at 3-all after the opening chukka, but Jaisal Singh’s team took control from the second and held on for a notable victory.
Akasha then continued their strong start, defeating Signet Segavas 14-11, the same scoreline as their opening win over White Crane. Jehangiri bounced back from their earlier defeat by overcoming White Crane 10-8, while Black Bears produced a commanding performance to beat Valhalla 14-11.
Three more matches followed on Saturday 27 June. Kazak defeated Jindal Steel/La Dolfina 14-11 after a hard-fought contest settled in the final chukka, while Dubai edged Ferne Park 10-9 in another closely fought encounter. Shoreline completed the day with one of the most convincing results so far, defeating Clinova Circulare 12-6.
On Sunday 28 June, UAE Polo Team responded to their opening defeat with a 10-9 extra-chukka victory over Park Place, with Tomas Willans substituting for Hugo Taylor after he was hit in the face with a ball. La Hechicera also continued their winning form, producing a dominant 14-9 win over La Dolfina/Marqués de Riscal to win The Midhurst Town Cup.
With 19 teams competing up to 22 goals, the early stages of The St. Regis British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup have already underlined the depth and competitiveness of this year’s field, setting up a highly anticipated run of matches ahead at Cowdray.
