Tue 7th Jul 2026The Race to the Quarters is On Gold Cup Quarter Finalists to be Decided this Week
Another busy week of high goal polo at Cowdray Park Polo Club as the competition for the final four Quarter final places heats up. Three teams have secured their spots after gruelling league stage matches. Akasha, Black Bears and Dubai are unbeaten and guaranteed their places, while La Hechicera, despite winning all three of their league stage matches, are still dependent on a win against UAE Polo Team in their final league stage match in order to secure their place. If they lose, their position in the Quarters will be subject to other results. Gaston were the latest to secure their place, defeating Valhalla on Monday 6 July to join Akasha and Black Bears from Groups B and C as they head into the Quarters.
The league stages reach their conclusion this week with eight more matches ahead of the Quarter Finals on 11 – 12 July.
Current standings:
League A: Dubai are through and Ferne Park will join them if they can beat Ojo Caliente on Wednesday 8 July. If Ojo Caliente win, then Ojo Caliente, Ferne Park and Shoreline will go to a penalty shootout.
Groups B/C: Black Bears and Akasha are already safely through and the remaining place went on Monday 6 July to Gaston who qualified outright having beaten Valhalla.
Groups D/E: No team is yet guaranteed a Quarter Final place. A number of scenarios are still possible, from a four-way tie on six points requiring a penalty shootout, to five teams finishing on four points and fighting for the final two qualification spots. La Hechicera control their own destiny: win their final match Tuesday 7 July against UAE and they are through.
It is an all-important week in The St. Regis British Polo Open Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup where 19 teams will become eight and we will have our Quarter Finalists.
