Wed 2nd May 2012South African rising star murdered The polo world is mourning the death of two-goaler Sibusiso Duma
SOUTH AFRICAN POLO is in shock today after the news broke that 25-year-old rising star Sibusiso Duma has been stabbed to death in his homeland. Duma, who became South Africa’s first black polo international in 2009, was killed on Tuesday near Howick, in KwaZulu-Natal. The two-goaler famously won the man of the match prize in the 2009 Kurland International, in which he scored five goals to guide South Africa to a 12-10 win over an 18-goal Australia side. He had been due to travel to England for the summer season. South Africa Polo Association executive director Clive Peddle has written a tribute to Duma on the association’s website that says: “Sbu was a shining example to all with his enthusiasm and love for polo. “For years he strived to improve his game and finally got the break he had been looking for when offered a job in the UK, only for it to be snatched away.” Picture: Sibusiso Duma after the 2009 Kurland International.
