Thu 10th May 2012 John Cowdray Trophy postponed due to ongoing bad weather Young England will not play before St Regis International on 19 May THE YOUNG ENGLAND game that was due to be played before the St Regis International Cup at Cowdray on 19 May has been postponed, the HPA announced on Thursday. The decision to cancel the John Cowdray Trophy was largely due to the fact that the ground will not be able to cope with two games on the same day. "With all the bad weather, the ground at Cowdray just isn't up to it," Olly Hughes told Polo Times. "Even if we have sun between now and next Saturday [19 May], it will still be asking a lot of the ground to host both matches. There also hasn't been a single Young England selection day as everything has been cancelled." Although the line-ups had not been confirmed, it was understood that an England 21 side were due to take part - made up of "players who are 21 or under and are two-goals or above", as the HPA rule states. Last year, the John Cowdray Trophy was played after the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup final in July. However, the HPA doesn't expect to play the game then but, rather, is hoping to schedule it for another Gold Cup afternoon, when there is still likely to be a good number of supporters.
