Wed 23rd May 2012Zacara and Talandracas lose their first 2012 Cartier Queen's Cup games Last year's Gold Cup and Queen's Cup winners lose opening matches
EL REMANSO DEFEATED Lyndon Lea's Zacara, 10-7, in yesterday's opening matches of the Cartier Queen's Cup. Meanwhile, in the second game of the day, defending champions Talandracas lost to EFG Bank Aravali, featuring Mark Tomlinson, 12-9. El Remanso's Guillermo Terrera helped his side get off to a good start in their game against last year's Cowdray Park Gold Cup winners by scoring a hat-trick in the first chukka. By half time, El Remanso were 8-5 up and continued to retain the lead in the second half. EFG Bank Aravali had a tough match against Edouard Carmignac's Talandracas. Although EFG's Eduardo Novillo Astrada was on fine form, and ably supported by Tomlinson and Marcos Di Paola, Talandracas' Lucas Monteverde and Milo Fernandez Araujo kept their side in the game. Despite EFG's patron Karan Thapar retiring in the fifth chukka and replaced by James Carr, the team managed to hold onto the lead to defeat their opposition by three goals. In today's games, Les Lions play Belmont Farm.
